Beetroot is a vegetable grown for its swollen, fleshy root, typically deep red or purple, although the young leaves are also edible. It is a hardy crop that thrives in mild climates and tolerates cool weather, producing sweet, juicy roots with uniform growth. The leaves can be used raw or cooked, and the plant benefits from deep, loose soil with consistent moisture to develop well-formed roots.

How to sow Beetroot seeds

Sow seeds directly into the ground at 1-2 cm deep in fertile, loose, well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during germination. Ideal germination temperatures are 10-25 ºC, with seedlings appearing in 7-15 days. Once plants reach 5-7 cm, thin them to 10-15 cm apart. Provide good sunlight and regular watering for tender, well-sized roots.
