Traditional Canary Islands banana plant, prized for its small, sweet bananas. Perfect for warm climates or as an ornamental tropical plant.
Height: ≈25-30 cm with pot
The Canary Islands banana plant is a tropical plant emblematic of the Canary Islands, highly valued both for its ornamental appeal and for producing small, sweet, and aromatic bananas.
It stands out for its high productivity and fast growth, reaching 2–3 meters in height within just a couple of years under ideal conditions. It grows vigorously, with large, exotic-looking green leaves that add freshness and shade to gardens, patios, or terraces. From planting to harvest usually takes 9 to 12 months in warm climates.
It produces clusters of small bananas of excellent quality, prized for their intense flavor and creamy texture. Additionally, the plant continuously produces new shoots ("pups") around the main stalk, naturally forming small banana groves.
It prefers fertile, deep, and well-draining soils and needs regular watering during hot periods for optimal growth. Although it tolerates full sun, some protection during the hottest hours of the day is beneficial in very exposed areas. It does not withstand prolonged frost, so in colder regions, it is best grown indoors in a bright spot or inside a greenhouse.
