Wild asparagus has been used since ancient times as a vegetable and in medicine. It has a mild and delicate flavour. It is usually an upright shrub, with a woody, branched stem and small pointed leaves (0.5–1 cm) with a dark central stripe. Its flowers are very small and white or yellow. It forms a short rhizome from which the stems emerge.
