Perennial-rooted Asclepias from which upright stems grow up to one meter tall, ending in beautiful and abundant clusters of bright yellow flowers. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
Asclepias tuberosa 'Hello Yellow' is a charming yellow-flowered variety of the well-known North American perennial species. This plant stands out not only for its spectacular blooming but also for its ability to attract wildlife and enhance any sunny space with its vibrant energy. Unlike the typical variety, which produces bright orange flowers, 'Hello Yellow' displays dense clusters of golden blooms that bring a warm, luminous, and very special tone to the garden.
From its tuberous roots emerge upright stems that can reach up to 90–100 cm in height. At the tip of each stem, inflorescences form with numerous small star-shaped flowers that bloom throughout much of the summer. Their soft, sweet fragrance is not only pleasing to people but also irresistible to butterflies, bees, native pollinators, and even hummingbirds in regions where they are found.
Like other Asclepias species, this variety is especially valued for its role in monarch butterfly conservation, as it provides nectar for adults—though it is not usually one of the preferred species for egg-laying. It is ideal for pollinator gardens, naturalized spaces, meadows, rock gardens, or sunny borders. Maintenance is very easy: it is drought-tolerant, non-invasive, and highly adaptable to different types of well-drained soils.
Another important advantage of 'Hello Yellow' is that it does not produce the milky sap typical of many other Asclepias species, making it cleaner and more suitable for ornamental gardens. Its thick roots store water and nutrients, allowing it to withstand dry summers once established.
