Chinese chives are a hardy perennial herb known for their long, flat, deep-green leaves with a mild garlic-and-onion flavor. The plant produces white star-shaped flowers in umbels that attract pollinators and add ornamental interest. It grows vigorously, is highly resilient and regrows repeatedly after cutting, providing continuous harvests throughout the growing season.

Traditionally used in many Asian dishes, its leaves are added to stir-fries, soups, dumplings and fresh preparations, offering a gentle aromatic touch. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant and to attract beneficial insects.

How to sow Allium tuberosum seeds

Sow seeds in trays or directly in the soil, covering them with 0.5-1 cm of substrate. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes 10-20 days at 15-22 °C. Transplant seedlings at around 10 cm tall, spacing 20-30 cm apart. Prefers full sun or light shade and loose, fertile soil. Regular watering promotes tender, aromatic leaves.
