Centella asiatica is a perennial creeping herb that forms dense mats of vegetation through stems that root easily where they touch the ground. Its small, rounded, bright green leaves create an attractive carpet-like appearance throughout much of the year.

Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, it naturally grows in moist habitats, along waterways and in fresh, fertile soils. Its compact growth habit makes it an excellent choice for shaded garden areas, pond edges and large containers.

It thrives in moist conditions, mild temperatures and protection from intense summer sun. Under suitable conditions it can spread steadily to form an attractive low-growing ground cover.
