The shrub or small tree of Averrhoa carambola, known as carambola, is native to Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka. Its fruits, which grow in clusters on the branches and trunk, have a bright yellow-orange color and a distinctive shape with 5 angles. When sliced transversely, they take the shape of a five-pointed star, which gives them their name of "star fruit." Carambola is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, phosphorus, and potassium, making it a great addition to a healthy diet.

This tree, which thrives in warm, humid climates, is ideal for tropical and subtropical regions. It requires well-drained soil and protection from strong winds. Its cultivation is relatively easy when these conditions are met, and it is known for its ability to thrive in both acidic and alkaline soils. Additionally, it flowers multiple times a year, allowing for a continuous harvest of fruit.
