Inula helenium, known as elecampane, is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family that can reach between 1 and 2 meters in height. The erect stem is covered with large, lance-shaped dark green leaves. In summer and fall, it blooms with striking yellow flowers, similar to daisies, grouped in flower heads.

Native to Europe and Western Asia, elecampane is grown for its ornamental value as well as its certain medicinal properties. It prefers well-drained soils and exposure to full sun or partial shade. It is appreciated in gardening for its resilience and its ability to attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for eco-friendly gardens.

Additionally, it is known for its use in gardens to repel insect pests. Due to its robustness, elecampane is ideal for gardens seeking both a decorative and functional plant.
