Socotra dragon tree - Seeds
Dracaena cinnabari
Dracaena cinnabari, commonly known as the Socotra dragon tree, is an exceptionally distinctive and rare species. The source description notes that it naturally occurs only on the island of Socotra, giving it considerable botanical interest.
Its umbrella-shaped crown and sculptural silhouette make it unmistakable. In cultivation it calls for patience, excellent drainage, good light and protection from prolonged cold or wet conditions, especially while young.
How to sow Socotra dragon tree seeds
Sow the seeds in a mineral, airy and very well-drained medium, keeping it lightly moist but never waterlogged. Place the container somewhere warm and bright, protected from excessive direct sun at first.
Growth may be slow, so stable conditions and minimal disturbance are helpful. Once seedlings are well established, move them into deep individual pots, taking care not to damage the roots.
