Ocimum basilicum ‘Cinnamon’ is a distinctive and highly valued basil variety known for its warm, spicy aroma with clear cinnamon notes. Its leaves are green, narrow and delicate, releasing fragrance even with the slightest touch. The plant produces many pink to mauve flower spikes, which add ornamental value and attract bees and other pollinators.
It performs beautifully in both herb gardens and ornamental beds, offering culinary versatility along with a subtly exotic character. Its unique fragrance makes it excellent for teas, desserts, fresh dishes and aromatic blends.
How to sow the seeds
The seeds germinate best in warm, stable conditions. Prepare a light, well-drained substrate, moisten it and scatter the seeds on the surface, covering them only with a very thin layer of substrate or vermiculite. Keep humidity consistent using gentle misting and place the tray in a bright spot out of direct sun. Germination usually occurs within a few days if temperatures stay above 18 to 20 ºC.
Once the seedlings develop several true leaves, transplant them to pots or garden beds, allowing enough space for their compact growth habit. Pinching the growing tips encourages bushiness and helps delay flowering.
