Gaillardia aristata - Seeds
Gaillardia aristata Burgundy
Free-flowering perennial with large blooms in warm shades of yellow, orange and red, ideal for sunny gardens.
Gaillardia aristata, commonly known as blanket flower, is an ornamental perennial valued for its abundant and long-lasting blooms. It forms compact clumps with slightly hairy green leaves and showy daisy-like flower heads that bring strong colour throughout much of the season.
It is hardy and easy to grow, perfect for borders, rock gardens, naturalistic plantings and sunny beds. Once established, it tolerates drought well and adapts to poor soils as long as drainage is good. Its flowers attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
How to sow Gaillardia aristata seeds
Sow seeds in spring, either in trays or directly outdoors. Place them on a light, well-drained substrate and cover only lightly. Keep moisture steady without waterlogging and place the tray in a bright location. Germination usually occurs within 10-20 days at 18-22 °C. Once seedlings have several true leaves, transplant them 25-35 cm apart.
