Salak - Seeds
Salacca zalacca
Salacca zalacca, commonly called salak or snake fruit, is a tropical palm native to Indonesia. It is best known for its distinctive brown, scaly fruit skin, which gives the fruit its memorable common name.
As a plant, salak is appealing for tropical collections and warm growing spaces where humidity and shelter can be provided. It is a genuinely tropical species, so it should not be treated as cold hardy and is best grown under stable conditions.
How to sow salak seeds
Sow the seeds in a loose, moist, well-drained medium, covering them only lightly. Keep the container warm and in bright light, protected from strong direct sun during the early stages.
Maintain even moisture without letting the medium dry out completely or become waterlogged. Once seedlings are established, transplant carefully to avoid damaging young roots, and continue growing in a tropical environment or a very bright indoor position.
