Licorice - Seeds
Glycyrrhiza glabra
The root of this plant is one of the oldest known spices, with a sweet-and-sour, anise-like flavor. It is mainly used in the preparation of desserts and drinks, thanks to its distinctive aroma and sweetening power, which is greater than that of sugar. Its medicinal properties have been documented as far back as 2000 B.C. in Chinese medicine and also in Ancient Egypt.
