Myrrhis odorata, commonly known as sweet cicely, is a perennial herb native to the mountainous regions of Europe. It forms vigorous clumps of finely divided foliage with a delicate, fern-like appearance. The entire plant releases a pleasant aniseed scent, making it a popular choice for herb and cottage gardens.

In spring and early summer, it produces umbels of small white flowers that attract a wide range of pollinators. Its attractive foliage remains decorative for much of the growing season, adding texture and interest to borders and naturalistic plantings.

It is a hardy species that thrives in fertile, moist soils and performs particularly well in cooler climates.
