Comfrey - Plant
Symphytum officinale
Vigorous perennial with large green leaves and abundant bell-shaped flowers, ideal for naturalistic gardens and moist areas.
Symphytum officinale, commonly known as common comfrey, is a robust perennial herb that forms dense clumps of large elongated leaves with a slightly rough texture. During spring and summer, it produces arching flower stems covered with clusters of nodding bell-shaped flowers, typically in shades of pink, purple or cream.
It is a hardy species that thrives in fertile, moisture-retentive soils and performs well in both full sun and partial shade. Its lush foliage provides structure and volume in the garden, while the flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.
Due to its vigorous growth and ease of cultivation, it is widely appreciated in wildlife gardens, vegetable plots and naturalized landscapes.
