Melia azedarach, commonly known as the chinaberry tree or Persian lilac, is a fast-growing ornamental tree valued for its broad canopy, elegant shape, and ability to thrive in warm, dry climates. Native to Asia, it has spread widely across tropical and subtropical regions, frequently planted in urban landscapes and large gardens.

In spring, it produces clusters of small, light lilac flowers with a gentle fragrance that attracts beneficial insects. These are followed by round yellow fruits that often remain on the branches throughout winter, adding visual interest when the tree is leafless. Its large, divided leaves provide generous shade, making it especially welcome in hot environments.

Low-maintenance and highly tolerant of drought, pruning, and pollution, the chinaberry is ideal for streetscapes, parks, and low-care gardens. Though its fruits should not be consumed, its presence adds a refined and exotic charm to any setting.
