Golden Bantam Sweet Corn (Organic) - Seeds
Zea mays (OW)
Medium-early organic sweet corn producing long ears filled with tender, sweet kernels, perfect for fresh eating, preserving or freezing.
Golden Bantam Sweet Corn is a classic medium-early organic variety of Zea mays convar. saccharata, renowned for its rich flavour and reliable yields. Vigorous plants grow between 1 and 4 metres tall and typically produce 2 to 3 long ears per plant.
The ears are packed with juicy, tender and naturally sweet kernels that are delicious when eaten fresh, boiled, grilled or added to a wide variety of dishes. They are also excellent for canning and freezing, making this variety highly versatile for home gardeners.
For the best harvests, grow it in full sun in fertile, consistently moist soil with good drainage and excellent air and water permeability.
How to sow the seeds
Sow directly outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed to at least 12-15 °C. Plant the seeds 3-5 cm deep, spacing plants about 25-30 cm apart with 60-80 cm between rows.
For better pollination, sow in blocks of several rows rather than a single row. Keep the soil fertile, evenly moist and well drained, watering regularly during flowering and ear development.
