Euterpe oleracea, commonly known as the açaí palm, is a tropical species native to the Amazon basin. Slender and graceful, it can reach considerable height in its natural environment and forms clusters of thin stems topped with long, arching leaves. Beyond its ornamental appeal, it is valued for its clusters of deep purple fruits — the famous açaí berries. Perfect for warm, humid climates or as an exotic indoor plant in bright spaces. It requires regular watering and protection from frost.

How to sow Euterpe oleracea seeds

Euterpe oleracea seeds should be sown fresh, as they lose viability quickly. Before sowing, it is advisable to soak them in warm water for 24 to 48 hours to promote germination. They should be placed in a light, moist, and well-drained substrate, keeping a stable temperature between 25 °C and 30 °C. Germination may take several weeks or even months, so consistent moisture and patience are key. Young seedlings should be grown in a warm, sheltered spot, away from intense direct sunlight.
