Corchorus capsularis is an annual plant native to Asia, valued for its long, strong fibers extracted from the stems, traditionally used to make sacks, ropes, and fabrics. It grows upright, reaching 1-2.5 meters in height, with lance-shaped leaves and small yellow flowers. It is very sensitive to frost and requires warm, sunny conditions and well-drained fertile soils. Beyond its industrial use, it can also be grown in gardens and vegetable plots to increase diversity and cover the ground.

How to sow Corchorus capsularis seeds

To germinate Corchorus capsularis, sow the seeds directly in well-drained substrate, keeping it moist but not waterlogged. Optimal germination temperature is 25-30 °C. Seeds typically germinate within 5-14 days. Transplant seedlings when they reach 10-15 cm in height, maintaining 30-50 cm spacing between plants.
