Mugwort - Seeds
Artemisia vulgaris
Hardy perennial with dark green upper leaves and silvery undersides, vigorous growth and very easy to cultivate.
Mugwort is a strong, resilient perennial that can grow between 1 and 1.5 meters tall. It features reddish stems and deeply divided leaves, green on the upper surface and silver beneath, creating an appealing ornamental contrast. By late summer, it produces small yellowish or reddish flower clusters that attract beneficial insects. It thrives even in poor, dry or slightly compacted soils, making it ideal for garden areas where other plants struggle.
Its robust nature and vertical presence make it perfect for natural borders or to add structure to low-maintenance garden designs.
How to sow Artemisia vulgaris seeds
Sow seeds very superficially in a seed tray, as they require light to germinate. Cover them only with a very thin layer of substrate and keep the soil moist but never waterlogged. They germinate best between 18 and 22 °C, usually within 10-25 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them to their final position, spacing 40-60 cm apart, in a sunny or partial shade location with well-drained soil. Although direct outdoor sowing is possible, starting in trays provides more uniform establishment.
