Sweet Alyssum - Seeds
Lobularia maritima Snowcloth
Low-growing annual or perennial plant with small leaves and fragrant white or pink flowers, ideal for borders and pots.
Lobularia maritima, known as sweet alyssum, is a low, highly branched plant producing numerous small, fragrant flowers. It is used as ground cover, in borders, pots, and planters, providing both color and aroma. Its leaves are small, green, and slightly fleshy, adapted to coastal climates and well-drained soils.
It tolerates poor soils and some salinity, making it perfect for Mediterranean or coastal gardens. It attracts pollinators, and its extended flowering period makes it ornamental for several weeks.
How to sow Lobularia maritima seeds
Sow seeds directly in trays or in the ground in late winter or early spring. Place seeds on the substrate surface and press lightly, as they require light to germinate. Keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually occurs within 7-14 days. When seedlings have several true leaves, transplant them leaving 15-20 cm between plants for proper growth and abundant flowering.
