Wild Strawberry Yellow Cream - Seeds
Fragaria vesca Regina
Perennial plant, yielding yellow, sweet and fragrant berries. Harvested from June to autumn. Grow best in medium heavy soil, can be grown in a rock garden, tolerate shade.
Wild strawberry ‘Yellow Cream’ is a perennial small-fruited strawberry variety valued for its cream-yellow berries, which are sweet and aromatic. It produces delicate, decorative fruits from early summer until autumn, depending on growing conditions. Its low, compact habit makes it suitable for vegetable gardens, pots, window boxes, borders and rock gardens.
This variety grows well in fertile, fresh and well-drained soil. It can be grown in sun or partial shade, making it a useful choice for areas where a low, ornamental and productive plant is desired. Its green, toothed leaves form dense clumps, while the small white flowers develop into pale, eye-catching fruits that stand out from traditional red strawberries.
How to sow wild strawberry ‘Yellow Cream’ seeds
Sow the seeds in seed trays from late winter to spring. Use a light, moist growing medium and scatter the seeds over the surface without burying them deeply, as they are very small. Press them gently into the substrate and cover them with only a very thin layer of sifted compost or vermiculite. Keep the seed tray moist but not waterlogged, in a bright and warm place.
Germination may be slow and uneven, usually taking 2 to 4 weeks. When the seedlings have several true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or their final growing position, leaving about 25-30 cm between plants. Keep the soil fresh during growth and avoid letting it dry out completely, especially during flowering and fruit formation.
