Sapodilla - Seeds
Manilkara zapota
Manilkara zapota, commonly known as sapodilla, is a tropical fruit tree native to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. It is valued for its sweet fruit and for its ornamental presence in warm climates.
This species is best suited to tropical or protected subtropical cultivation, with good light, warmth and a well-drained growing medium. In colder regions it is usually better grown in a container so it can be sheltered during unfavorable periods.
How to sow sapodilla seeds
Sow fresh seeds in a loose, fertile, well-drained medium and keep it lightly moist. Place the container in a warm, bright position and avoid waterlogging.
Once seedlings have several leaves and a sufficient root system, transplant them carefully into deeper containers. During early growth, protect them from cold and water regularly without keeping the medium saturated.
