Dragon's blood rattan - Seeds
Calamus draco
Calamus draco, known as dragon's blood rattan, is a distinctive climbing palm from Southeast Asia. It is valued for its rarity, growth habit and botanical interest within the rattan palms.
As a climbing palm, it does not behave like a conventional solitary palm. In cultivation it needs space, sheltered conditions and, over time, suitable support for its natural habit.
How to sow dragon's blood rattan seeds
Sow Calamus draco seeds in a deep, loose and well-drained medium with some organic matter. Keep moisture regular but avoid saturation, as young roots need good aeration.
Place the seed container in a bright, protected environment. Once seedlings are established, move them to suitable containers and plan early for the space required by a climbing palm.
