German Chamomile - Seeds
Matricaria chamomilla (OW)
Fragrant annual herb with delicate white flowers and yellow centres, valued for its ornamental beauty, pleasant aroma and long history of traditional herbal use.
German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is a fast-growing annual belonging to the daisy family. Its charming white flowers with bright yellow centres and sweet fragrance make it a popular choice for flower gardens, herb gardens and wildflower meadows while also attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators.
The flowers can be harvested once fully open and dried to preserve their fragrance. Botanical and ethnobotanical literature frequently mentions chamomile for its traditional medicinal uses, in addition to its ornamental and aromatic qualities.
Easy to grow and highly rewarding, it performs well both in containers and directly in the garden.
How to sow the seeds
Sow from late winter through spring directly outdoors or in seed trays. As the seeds require light for optimal germination, press them gently onto the surface of the growing medium or cover them only very lightly.
Keep the soil lightly moist until germination, which usually occurs within 7-14 days. Thin or transplant seedlings to leave approximately 20-30 cm between plants. Grow in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
