Fennel, Florence sweet - Seeds
Foeniculum vulgare Dulce de Florencia
Variety grown for its white, fleshy bulb with a mild, sweet anise flavour.
Florence Fennel is a cultivated variety specifically selected for its swollen, aromatic bulb, widely appreciated in Mediterranean cuisine. Unlike common fennel, which is primarily grown for foliage and seeds, this type is prized for its tender, juicy base with a pleasant anise-like taste.
The plant produces light-green, feathery leaves and remains more compact than wild fennel, making it excellent for home gardens. Its bulb is ideal for raw dishes, roasting, sautés or stews. It is a hardy plant that adapts well to different soils as long as drainage is good.
How to sow Florence Fennel seeds
Sow seeds in spring or late summer, either directly outdoors or in trays, covering them lightly with substrate. Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged and aim for temperatures between 15 and 20 °C to support steady germination, usually taking 10-20 days. Transplant once the seedlings have several true leaves, spacing them 25-35 cm apart in a sunny spot with loose, well-drained soil. For bet
