Muhlenbergia capillaris - Seeds
Muhlenbergia capillaris
Perennial ornamental grass with spectacular pink plumes, hardy and low-maintenance, perfect for dry and decorative gardens.
Muhlenbergia capillaris, commonly known as pink muhly grass, is a perennial grass native to North America. It forms dense clumps of fine, arching bluish-green leaves that, in autumn, are topped with airy pink or purplish flower panicles, creating a striking cloud-like effect. It is highly valued in ornamental landscaping for its low maintenance, drought tolerance, and ability to thrive in poor or sandy soils. It adapts well to coastal and urban conditions and is ideal for borders, mass plantings, or naturalistic gardens.
How to sow Muhlenbergia capillaris seeds
Muhlenbergia capillaris seeds can be sown in spring or late winter. Scatter the seeds over a light, well-drained substrate, covering them only lightly, as they need some light to germinate. Keep the substrate evenly moist but not waterlogged, at a temperature between 20 °C and 25 °C. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 4 weeks. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or to their final location in full sun. This hardy species tolerates drought and poor soils once established.
