Spotted mangrove - Seeds
Rhizophora stylosa
Rhizophora stylosa, commonly known as spotted mangrove, is a mangrove species found along coastal areas of East Asia and Australia. It belongs to shoreline ecosystems where plants cope with persistent moisture, waterlogged ground and changing coastal conditions, and it is especially recognizable for its supporting roots and sculptural tropical appearance.
For plant collectors, it is an unusual species suited to warm, humid growing conditions. It is best approached as a tropical or subtropical plant, particularly where bright light, steady warmth and high humidity can be provided.
When sowing, use a growing medium that stays moist while remaining reasonably open and stable. Keep the seeds or propagules in a bright, sheltered position with gentle, consistent warmth, and avoid letting the medium dry out completely during establishment.
In home cultivation, regular watering and humid air are helpful, along with protection from cold conditions. In cooler regions, it is better grown in a bright indoor position, conservatory or greenhouse rather than outdoors through unfavorable weather.
