Shikakai - Seeds
Acacia concinna
Acacia concinna, commonly known as shikakai, is a species widely recognized in India by its Hindi name. The source description explains that shikakai means “fruit for the hair,” a cultural reference linked to its fruits.
As a plant, it is an interesting acacia for collections of warm-climate useful and ornamental species. In cultivation it should be given good light, mild to warm conditions and a freely draining medium.
How to sow shikakai seeds
Acacia seeds often have a hard seed coat, so careful pre-treatment may help moisture enter the seed. Sow in a loose, well-drained medium and keep it moist without saturating it.
Place the seed tray somewhere warm and bright. Once seedlings are established, increase light exposure gradually and transplant carefully into individual containers, providing support if they develop a climbing habit.
