Gloriosa is the national flower of Zimbabwe and an exotic plant that stands out for its impressive beauty. Also known as Glorious Lily or climbing lily, it is a vine that attaches itself to other plants with tendrils, displaying spectacular flowers in red and orange tones that capture attention in any garden.

Ideal for tropical gardens, Gloriosa is used exclusively as an ornamental plant due to its climbing nature and the need for a warm, sunny environment. Its lush flowering and unique shape make it a centerpiece in tropical landscapes and warm-climate gardens.

How to sow Gloriosa seeds

Gloriosa seeds should be sown in well-drained, organic-rich soil in a warm, sunny location. Before sowing, it is recommended to soak the seeds for 24 hours to soften their hard coating and promote germination. Plant the seeds about 1-2 cm deep, keeping a distance of 10 cm between them.

Germination can be slow, and seeds may take 2 to 3 months to sprout. During this time, it is essential to keep the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged and ensure the seeds receive plenty of direct sunlight. Once the seedlings begin to grow, they can be transplanted to their final garden location, where they will climb and spread as they develop.
