Hot pepper, Cayena - Seeds
Capsicum annuum Cayena
Hot pepper variety with elongated, bright red fruits and very spicy flavor, used for sauces and seasonings.
Cayenne Pepper is a Capsicum annuum variety known for its thin, elongated fruits that turn bright red when ripe. It has a very spicy flavor, making it ideal for sauces, preserves, spices, and traditional dishes requiring a strong heat.
It thrives in warm, sunny climates and requires fertile, well-drained soil. Fruits should be harvested when fully red to maximize flavor and spiciness. Traditionally, they are dried or preserved in vinegar or oil for long-term use.
How to sow Cayenne Pepper seeds
Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 6–12 hours before sowing. Sow in seed trays at 0.5–1 cm deep, keeping the substrate moist but not waterlogged. Germination is best between 20–28 °C, with seedlings appearing in 7–14 days. Transplant when seedlings have 4–6 true leaves, leaving 30–40 cm between plants. Requires full sun, regular watering, and light fertilization for optimal fruit development.
