Lobularia maritima ‘Magic Circles’, commonly known as sweet alyssum, is a low-growing annual variety valued for its abundant flowering in shades of white, pink and reddish tones. Its tiny flowers, produced in many clustered sprays, have a gentle fragrance and create a very decorative carpet-like effect.

It is ideal for borders, rock gardens, pots, window boxes and long-flowering displays. It grows well in light, well-drained soils, even when they are not especially rich. It prefers a sunny position but can also tolerate partial shade. Thanks to its low habit, it combines beautifully with taller flowering plants or brightly coloured varieties.

How to sow Lobularia maritima ‘Magic Circles’ seeds

Sow the seeds in late winter or during spring, either directly outdoors or in seed trays. Scatter them over the surface of the compost and cover them only very lightly, or gently press them into the soil. Keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes place within 1-2 weeks. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin or transplant them, leaving about 15-20 cm between plants.
